ENYTB FORFEIT PENALTIES
posted by Administrator 06/08/2008 10:06:47
Non-playing forfeits shall be penalized as follows:Teams sometimes wrongly assume that non-tournament qualifying games can be canceled w/o penalty because they don't count in the competitions for tournament berths. This is NOT the case. Forfeit penalties apply to ALL league scheduled games equally. (The only exception is early in the season, when a scheduled game may conflict with a team's school baseball season and/or post-season. In such cases, requests for postponement should be granted as a non-weather postponement, provided the request was initiated at least 72 hours before the league game's scheduled start time.)The league prefers that teams provide their opponent AT LEAST a 7 to 10 day advance notice on all requested non-weather schedule changes, including forfeits. Postponement requests within 72 hours of the game's scheduled start time shall not be allowed, except for bad weather. Such games must be either played or forfeited, unless they qualify under the no harm, no foul cancellation provision. ----------------------------------------------------------------------NOTE #1: NO harm-no foul cancellations. When both teams are in agreement not to play or make-up a league game, neither party is harmed. Because neither party is harmed, a forfeit penalty shall NOT be assessed. This provision shall apply to non-tournament qualifying games. It shall also apply to tournament qualifying games, provided there is another game already scheduled between the same two opponents that can replace the "canceled" game to fulfill the must play requirements between the two teams. If there isn't, then this provision would not apply and the game would convert to a PASSED game 7 days after it was scheduled to be played if it isn't rescheduled or scored. PASSED games carry no forfeit penalty either but both teams would permanently forego any standings points for this "must play" game. (If a 3rd party team is disadvantaged from winning a tournament berth as a result of a PASSED game, the league can require the game to be played.) To effect the outcome of a no harm/no foul cancellation, teams go to the game on their schedule and click Update Game Status > No Harm/No Foul Cancellations > Request-----------------------------------------------------------------------Also, "late notice" forfeits i.e., when notice is within 72 hours of the game's scheduled start time, shall incur a more severe penalty. In addition, the penalty for a forfeit shall increase according to its frequency. The list below shows the schedule of penalties applicable to forfeits. 1st NPF this year ……3 days notice – warning #1……………………….less than 3 days notice - $502nd NPF this year ……3 days notice – warning #2……………………….less than 3 days notice - $1003rd NPF this year …… 3 days notice - $100 fine----------------------------less than 3 days notice - $150 4th NPF this year …… 3 days notice - $150 fine---------------------------less than 3 days notice - $200 fine5th NPF this year ……Loss of ALL post-season tournament eligibility.NOTE: Three non-playing forfeits in the same division shall disqualify a team from a berth award in that division. 6th NPF this year ……Team is indefinitely suspended from league participation.------------------------------Thus, any team that forfeits a 5th league game, regardless of whether any of those games are tournament qualifying games, shall be disqualified from ALL post-season tournament eligibility. A 6th non-playing forfeit of ANY league game shall result in the indefinite suspension of the offending team. In addition, whenever the offending team is the visiting team, it also shall be responsible for making its opponent financially whole for any reasonable and unavoidable expenses incurred as a result of this offense. All revenues from these fines shall be placed in an escrow account and 50% of this account shall be applied in to the cost of hosting sanctioned tournaments in the following year, thereby lowering league fees. The remaining 50% shall carry over to the next year and combined with any additional fines collected in that year and applied in similar fashion. It is assumed that once offending teams feel the pinch of these fines they will change their ways and these fines will become a dwindling source of league revenue in successive years but time will tell.
