ENYTB FORFEIT PENALTIES
posted by Administrator 06/08/2008 10:06:47
Non-playing forfeits shall be penalized as follows:Teams sometimes wrongly assume that non-tournament qualifying games can be canceled w/o penalty because they don't count in the competitions for tournament berths. This is NOT the case. Forfeit penalties apply to ALL league scheduled games equally. (The only exception is early in the season, when a... read more
COMMON MISTAKES FROM WEEK No. 1
posted by Administrator 06/03/2008 09:06:47
To All Teams:Common mistakes by teams during first week:(1) Mid-game Rain-Outs are RAIN-OUTS, NOT suspended games.Games that are rained out before the trailing team has 5 complete offensive innings are NOT suspended games. They are rain-outs and must be postponed and replayed from their beginning (unless teams agree to do otherwise). NOTE - W/o documentation of such side-agreements, they are unenforceable. It makes no difference if a game is rained out before it starts or one pitch before the game is of OFFICIAL length, it is still a RAIN-OUT. This is the Major League Rule. It is also our rule. And it is reiterated in our playing rules re: Suspended Games. For the record, suspended games are defined as games that do not reach official length because of reasons OTHER than weather e.g., curfew, darkness etc.(2) Website - DHs where one game is played and one game is not.Do NOT enter the score of the first game until you have separated the DH into two single games. HOW TO SEPARATE A DH INTO TWO SGs - Use the Update Game Status link on your online schedule (each game has its own link) and select weather postponement. Our DH postpone logic will allow you to specify whether the 1st game, the 2nd game or both games were ppd. Once the games are properly classified as postponed or not postponed, enter the score for the game that was played. You have 7 days to reschedule the postponed game online.(3) Keep Your Online Schedule Current At ALL Times - Any game not scored or rescheduled within 7 days of the current scheduled date shall be "locked-out" as a PASSED game. WARNING - If you want to require your opponent to have to play the game of face a forfeit loss and penalty, and/or have it count for league purposes, you must enter a score or reschedule within 7 days. This is new in 2008 so don't get caught short. It prevents teams from hoarding unplayed games and claiming a slew of forfeit wins at season's end.(4) Either team can enter the score for any of its games, home or away. Each team can also enter their own highlights and email to their local newspapers.(5) WEATHER POSTPONEMENTS - After having confirmed a weather postponement with an opponent directly, either the home or away team can enter game postponement to their online schedule. Reschedules must be agreed to through direct communication. Assuming agreement on a reschedule is reached in a timely manner, either team can reschedule the game online. (If opponent is not cooperating in finding a reschedule, teams may uses online POSTPONE link to declare an IMPASSE prior to expiration of 7 day window. This is necessary to preserve your rights to the game being played and counting for points, if applicable.) (6) OTHER POSTPONEMENTS (all reasons except weather and weather-related):Unless teams have plenty of field and team availability, the league recommends that teams do NOT grant other teams Non Weather POSTPONEMENTS. The reason is simple: Most teams are fully scheduled and have little team or field availability not already scheduled. If they keep moving games into the later part of the season two things could happen and both are bad. Either the team will get tired playing everyday and run out of pitching and lose games they would not have or worse, we could hit an extended patch of bad weather and they will lose points for unplayed games. This loss of points could easily eliminate them from winning a berth in the sanctioned tournaments they paid to be eligible for.i - 3 DAY RULE (Postponement Requests That Are Not Timely)Non-weather postponements can not be initiated within 72 hours of a scheduled game. At that point, the game either must be played on the scheduled date (time or field changes can be negotiated) or forfeited. If forfeited, the offending team must inform his opponent immediately, directly and then update his online schedule by forfeiting the game via the Update Game Status link. The idea here is that there is no good excuse for a postponement that close to game time other than weather.ii - BEYOND 3 DAYS (Timely Requests)Requests for non-weather postponements can be made, provided they are made AT LEAST 72 hours in advance, though 7 days OR MORE is much preferred.PROTOCOL - A team must initiate its request for an OTHER postponement with their opponent directly (not via website). If the opponent says yes, or maybe, or I don't know (anything but no), the requesting team (Team A) then goes to the website to initiate his postponement request online (for league confirmation/verification purposes). Postponements that don't follow this protocol will not be enforceable in the event of disputes.Once Team A enters the request through their online schedule, their opponent (Team B) will receive the request for an OTHER PPD via auto-email with instructions for entering their reply online i.e., yes/no.If opponent reply = yes ==> game = postponed by website and all parties are notified of change in game status via auto-email. The two teams then have 7 days to reschedule the game online. Following agreement, either team can reschedule game online. (No IMPASSES are allowed on OTHER POSTPONED games.) Failure to reschedule within 7 days will result in PASSED game.If reply = no ===> postponement request = denied (auto-email informs all parties) and Team A must go back to its online schedule on the website and indicate whether they will play the game as scheduled or forfeit. NOTE: If Team A (the team that initiated the online request) fails to indicate online whether they are forfeiting or playing the game (i.e., team B does not receive a timely auto-email reply to that effect), Team B should contact Team A and tell them to do so on the website ASAP. If Team A still fails to do so, Team B should/must notify their League Rep and the League Office ASAP. League ADMINs will attempt to contact Team A to determine game status. If Team A fails to provide a timely reply to League Admin inquiries, the League ADMIN will officially declare the game a FORFEIT online. All parties will be informed of the FORFEIT via auto-email.(7) Paperwork - For those last second types ...... Paperwork does not go to me unless I am your league Rep (I am LR for new clubs only (not teams, clubs)).Paperwork flowTeams ====> to your Club Rep ===> to your League RepNOTE ==> We don't want this info piecemeal from individual teams. Club reps should collect paperwork from all their teams and forward to their League Rep as a single package. Bypassing your league reps and going directly to me will cause you extra work in the long run because League Reps have to process your info, enter it to the website and then forward parts of it on to me. Those of you that send it to directly to me when I'm not your league rep will not have your info properly processes e.g., birth certs will not be entered to the website.
