ENYTB FORFEIT PENALTIES
posted by Administrator 06/08/2008 10:06:47
Non-playing forfeits shall be penalized as follows:Teams sometimes wrongly assume that non-tournament qualifying games can be canceled w/o penalty because they don't count in the competitions for tournament berths. This is NOT the case. Forfeit penalties apply to ALL league scheduled games equally. (The only exception is early in the season, when a... read more

ENYTB Switches to More Flexible Postpone/Reschedule Game Function

Moments ago I switched the league over to the new "situational-based" [UPDATE GAME STATUS] function. This replaces the old [postpone] and [reschedule] game functions. Every game on your schedule now has its own Update Game Status game function. This function allows you to keep current the status of every game on your schedule. Keeping your online s... read more
OPENING WEEKEND 2008 - 13U and Up - And Much Much More ...
posted by Administrator 05/16/2008 11:05:52
To: All 13/18U Teams,For those of you used to my long emails and wondering what is wrong, fear not, this one will make up for what you have been missing. I have put a major announcement at the very bottom to force you to read it all!As most of you know, the league schedule is usually completed by about now. However, this year, largely because of my broken right wrist etc. I am running about two weeks behind. Last weekend I finished collecting/entering all the scheduling data and since then I have made considerable progress scheduling games. I think I am now about midway through this daunting annual task.Recent Milestones:(1) All Opening Weekend schedules, with two exceptions, are completed at this time and OFFICIAL. I am still trying to find a home for the Fonda split DH on Sunday and the Syracuse Diamond Devils DH with Sportsmaster on Monday. Any local solution/help would be welcome.(2) Schedules are completed, for the entire season, for teams in our "Western Front" - this includes about 11 member teams and two non-member teams. These teams play ENYTB exclusively on weekends because of the travel distance. They add quality teams and quality fields to the mix, helping to make the ENYTB Travel Baseball experience the best around.(3) "Must Fill" home dates are virtually all filled, I have a few teams to finish off first thing in the morning. These are usually field rental situations like Shuttleworth Park and Central Park A and B Diamonds.(4) The Week 2 schedule (through June 1) should be finished and released by late tomorrow afternoon, so that teams can get their umpire assignments etc. set for the next two weeks.I took a new approach to scheduling this year. Except for items (2) and (3) above, I am proceeding chronologically through the schedule, one week at a time, and one club (all N teams) at a time. I won't know until I'm done if this approach is faster or not but I am fairly sure it produces a higher quality schedule for those teams that belong to a large club sharing time on one or two fields with several other teams. This approach distributes home games across teams more evenly w/o long runs of consecutive home or away games. For example, if a club has three teams and one field, and I am looking at a weekend I can see if one of the teams isn't available on one of the two days (or already scheduled AWAY) and therefore give it preference vis a vis the other club teams on the day it is available for playing at home. Also, all else equal, this method allows me to give the home field to the team who has an available must play opponent w/o a home field on that day. This results in a match that does not "waste" a home field, as opposed to matching up two teams where both have a home field available. This should prove to be beneficial to those clubs who are "field-tight".ASIDE - How many club reps have ever looked at Main > Owner Home > Home Fields > Master Field Schedule? This day-by-day calendar for each field used by the league, lays out the time you gave me on your field(s) to use for scheduling in this league, as well as any games I have scheduled on those days and, the teams in your club that are available to play during the periods of unused field time. This is a handy field management tool for team reschedules etc. As teams update their online schedules for postponements, reschedules and new games, this tool continues to update itself.BACK ON TOPIC - It is my hope (plan, expectation) to finish the entire league schedule by this coming Friday, May 23. That would be two weeks since I began - and a new world record! Last year it took me 3 weeks and the year before that 4 weeks. However, if I should fail to make that deadline, it will assuredly be finished by the middle of the following week (about May 28). A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES AS YOU EMBARK ON YOUR ENYTB TRAVEL SEASON, be it your first or your Nth:(A) To make the customized scheduling process work for everybody, I am forced to cut a few corners, but I try my best not to seriously violate your criteria. I have two NEVERS:i - I never schedule a team to play on a no play date; and,ii - I never violate the limits specified for field availability. If I have done either of these two things to you something is seriously wrong and you need to conatct me ASAP.I have one almost NEVER:I almost never violate your DH preferences except where it is absolutely necessary and I try to keep such violations to one per customer.I try to keep to your time limits on team availability but they are secondary to field availability. You might say 12pm but if the field is only available from 11 to 2, the game will be scheduled at 11am. Once in a while, in the case of DH, I might even start a team at 9am when they asked not to start before 12pm. Again, this isn't likely to happen more than once per customer.Having said all that, if you believe I violated any of your scheduling inputs in a more significant way than just outlined, and you can't live with it, please bring it to my attention. Suffice to say, I won't take kindly to nitpicking but if I messed up, I want to know about it and I will fix it.(B) Otherwise, you are on your own with respect to your schedule for opening weekend - follow normal league protocols for ALL ppd/reschedules as outlined in FAQ. Remember, no change can be made to any online schedule w/o prior concurrence from your opponent. Read that last sentence again...The website will automatically email notifications of all schedule changes to all parties, including your players, assuming you have entered their correct email addresses on the roster input form...I am hearing that several 17/18 teams are planning to ppd their opening weekend games because of Sectionals. This is permissible but they must still follow standard ppd/reschedule protocols. Please be certain to confirm all opening weekend games with your opponents as soon as possible to avoid game day no-shows. If you are playing on a neutral field on opening weekend and you postpone your game, the team designated as the home team on the schedule is responsible for informing the field owner. If he fails to do so he will be responsible for any lost umpire fees.(C) All contact info for your opponents is obtainedby simply clicking the team name on your schedule (hyperlink). If this function does not work, it means you have not fully filled out your team contact form (team Reg > Coach Info). The link function on that page does NOT work in Internet Explorer. It does work when you use Firefox Browser. For FireFox downloading instructions (free) consult the article on our newsboard from the beginning of the year. That does it for now, remember to look online for the release of your official schedule, through June 1, by late afternoon tomorrow.Main > Team Home > Schedule = your online schedule. This is the most important page in the entire website. Take the time to read the Key and take the time to look at all the game functions available for each game (even more for home games). Each team has the responsibility to keep its online schedule current at all times. That means entering scores and/or ppd/rescheduling. That is all done on this page. You can also create/print team lineup cards from this page and send detailed game reports to your local newspapers. Click the [Must Play] hyperlink (it will be on any game with a yellow border) to understand which standings each game counts in. There also are other game functions that you can't see that are visible only to ADMINS. I believe our website schedule page has the richest set of game functions that can be found anywhere. And next week, we will be releasing our upgraded game functions for postponing and rescheduling games.(D) If you don't have at least 9 players on your roster, you have probably lost access to the website.(E) All team paperwork must be submitted BEFORE you play your first game. This includes signed AABC roster if you are AABC registered (print from website, preferrably on leagal sized paper); berth certs if needed (look on your roster to see if the DOB box is checked as confirmed; and team insurance naming ENYTB as additional insured.Paperwork path: Teams give to their club rep; club rep gives to their account rep (shown on the home page in Main > Owner Homer) and the account rep gives to me. (F) Print a copy of the rules - READ THEM - and bring them to EVERY ENYTB game. You need to make the umps aware of our catcher contact rule and the NCAA force play slide rule in effect. And one last major announcement, as soon as the schedule is done and I wrap up a few last items with each sanctioning body, I am leaving for vacation through June 20. Soooo, if you are a team guy and don't know who your club rep is, you better find out real quick (hint: look on your team home page Main > Team Home). And ditto for club reps vis a vis their account reps. Any player "rights" issues can go directly to our League Player Agent - Bill Kelts. I have full confidence that the league, with the expert assistance of our five account reps: Don Rahn; Dave Gage; Bill Gibson; Bill Kelts; and, Jeff Pexton, our many club reps and our great website, can run itself like a well oiled machine for a couple weeks. The only assistance I can offer during my absence is if you get a website error message, forward it to my email address with "website error" in the subject and my wife will forward your email to my son and he will fix it ASSUMING YOU CLEARLY STATED WHAT YOU DID TO INVOKE THE ERROR MESSAGE AND WHERE ON THE WEBSITE YOU DID IT.To sleep and then more scheduling....Sayanora, Ed
