ENYTB Doubles Down On PONY & NABF Post-Season Play!
posted by Administrator 05/27/2011 08:05:11
ENYTB Doubles Down On PONY & NABF Post-Season Play!ENYTB Has Acquired 12 More PONY/NABF Tournament Berths! The BONUS berths include the following:Eight EXTRA PONY Berths = one more @ every PONY age level 10U thru 18U; and,Four EXTRA NABF Berths = one more @ every NABF age level 14U thru 22U.This means 12 More ENYTB Teams Will Advance In National Championship Tournament Series Play in 2011!!!HOW THIS CAME ABOUT.......At the league's winter meetings, ENYTB presented its new two-pronged berth qualification system.PRONG A = June/July "Madness" Qualifier Tournaments; and,PRONG B = Regular season divisional winners.Discussion at the meetings focused on how the PONY and NABF berths would be awarded given that the league had only one of each at each age level. Thus, it was decided ENYTB would seek to acquire a 2nd berth from both PONY and NABF in every age division possible.A couple of weeks ago NABF officially accepted our application for a 2nd paid berth in each age division. PONY, however, had turned us down a while ago because they like to keep their tournaments small. ENYTB has been a strong supporter of PONY for more than a decade and PONY has become increasingly popularamong ENYTB teams because the PONY tournaments are relatively close, short in duration so that adults don't have to take time off from work, teams have found these tournaments quite competitive and they have reported that they have been treated very fairly by the tournament officials. In a surprise reversal, PONY informed me yesterday that ENYTB could have an additional berth at every age division! These additional PONY and NABF purchases, totaling several thousand dollars, were not budgeted for but since they represent a great addition to our program, the League has decided to go forward and buy a double allotment of berths from both organizations. We also plan to continue to do so for as long as our teams continue to register for the PONY and NABF Championship Tournament Series in the numbers they have recently. With two PONY berths and two NABF berths in the same age division, one each can be earmarked to teams based on the results of the Qualifier tournament and one each can be earmarked to the season's divisional winners. NOTE: Since the tournament is held before the season officially ends, a team could finish 1st in both. Were this to occur, the divisional berth would go to the next highest finishing team that did not win a berth in the Qualifier.Every PONY/NABF divisional winner is now assured of a berth; and,Every PONY/NABF registered team also is guaranteed an opportunity to win a PONY/NABF berth via the ENYTB Combined Qualifier tournaments (Madness).Consequently, ENYTB will send as many as five, six or seven teams, to sanctioned tournament play in most age levels, depending on the number of AABC berths available.NOTE: re: AABC Berth AvailabilityThe number of AABC berths the league has in each age division is strictly dependent on the number of teams that register for AABC in that age division. Because of an abundance of "unfriendly" practices employed by AABC against ENYTB teams in the last few years, the trend has been for fewer and fewer ENYTB teams to register for AABC each year, especially in the older ages where teams have had prior first hand experience with these unfriendly practices. In most age divisions, the league still has sufficient registrations to qualify for two or more AABC berths. De3pending on the number of berths available, here is how they will be distributed between regular season play and the Qualifiers:When there are exactly two berths: one berth will be reserved for the Qualifier and one for the Standings winner, same as PONY and NABF.When there are more than two berths and the number is even, the berths shall be divided equally between the two qualification prongs. When there are more than two berths and the number is odd, the extra berth will be reserved for teams based on the final standings. Click here for handout from meetings. When there is only one available berth in total, the singleton berth shall be reserved for the highest finishing team in the AABC division standings at the official end of AABC regular season play.Don't forget, all Qualifying tournament games also count in the regular season standings!----------------------------------------------------------------------
