MONDAY - APR 17 - SCHEDULE STATUS
posted by Administrator 04/17/2006 08:04:48
[16U DIVISION NEWS]

Team registration closed April 7. All money was due at that time. (We will accept late registrations through Friday, APR 21.) About 10% of activated teams still have not paid. In some cases, teams have paid their base fee but not their tournament eligibility fees and in other cases, teams have not paid anything. Scheduling in these divisions will begin this weekend. It takes me about one month to custom schedule 3,000 plus games. I don't answer the phone during this period. I didn't answer it very much last week. It is impossible for me to schedule and answer the phone. FYI - League Information Food-chain: Where do you begin? 1) Read the website. If you enjoy this League and want to see it continue, you have to do your part. a) FAQb) Playing Rulesc) Website Helpd) Welcomee) League Intro I did but I couldn't find what I was looking for. 2)Every team has an owner rep. Call him to see if he knows. What if they don't know? 3) Every team has a division coordinator and many also have a division director (they are posted in the Contact info Directory). They are you next point of contact. If owner rep does the research, instead of the team, he educates himself and can help his other teams with same question. If you enjoy this League and want to see it continue, you MUST avoid the urge to call me first on general questions. Use your DC/DD first. That is why they are there. I did but they didn't know the answer either. 4) If your DC/DD can not help you, they can contact me and get back to you. By them getting the answer to your question, they can answer the next team that asks the same question. What if I could not contact my DC/DD? 5) As a last resort you may contact any Board member you wish or email me. People have got to get used to the idea that we have an information structure in place to help. I can not schedule the entire league while answering every first year coach's questions. Prior to Apr 7 I was available to all of you. That time has come and gone. OK, what happens on Friday? 1) Registrations close. This means no new teams added after this point. 2) Division structure is created - see 15U for example of what this looks like. When this is done, I will email the League and give you 48 hours to find discrepancies. Several teams did NOT elect any tournament eligibility this year. They paid the $300 registration fee. There teams will be AABC/NABF registered, their games will count in standings used to award berths, and their players will be eligible to be drafted. However, their team will NOT be eligible for and sanctioned tournament berths. If you paid $300 only, this includes you. I don't want any negative surprises at the end. To be eligible for the sanctioned tournaments at the end you must contribute to the cost of hosting these tournaments (we expect to spend $25,000 this year hosting 11 sanctioned tournaments e.g., umps, baseballs and other incidentals). If you meant to be tournament eligible, check your invoice and see if any eligibility fees were selected and paid. If not, and it was an oversight, inform me immediately by email and get your check in. Division structure is derived from your tournament eligibility choices. There is no going back after Friday. 3) Pre-opening weekend games - these are the first games I schedule. They will be know sometime next week. These games are mostly in the 13-14 age divisions (older players are consumed with schoolball in early May). Thus, if you want to play before opening weekend - YOU MUST HAVE YOUR EARLY TEAM AND FIELD AVAILABILITY IN THE WEBSITE BY THIS WEEKEND. 4) Opening Weekend - Next I set-up opening weekend - if you want to play OW, I must have your OW team availability by this weekend. I should have your OW home field availability in case we have an overflow of demand. 5) Rest-of-season MUST PLAY GAMES - By the 1st of May I will be ready to these games - thus, EVERYONE MUST HAVE ALL FIELD AND TEAM AVAILABILITY ENTERED TO THE WEBSITE BY MAY 1st at the latest. Mark Musto is collecting field availability info. You enter team availability yourself. Any questions? Contact your owner rep and/or DC/DD. 6) Extra Games - many of request more games than are required by our berth competition. We schedule as many games for you as you wish, provided we have opponents to match you up with. This is the final layer of the scheduling process. Nothing additional (beyond step 5) is required from you for this. In general, things are about on schedule but this is where the rubber hits the road! And remember, as I schedule, the games show on your schedule, but they don't mean anything. Some games may change several times before the schedule is finalized. Last year we had a member that sent a new schedule to his team every day because he noticed the schedule kept changing. Finally he quit because he couldn't keep up with the schedule changes. Amazing. But there are several people like him every year. YOUR SCHEDULE MEANS NOTHING UNTIL I DECLARE ALL SCHEDULES OFFICIAL. Which will be: (i) Next week for pre-OW games;(ii) the end of APR for OW games; and,(iii) mid to late May for post-OW games. All announcements will be made on the website and through email.
