3 Recent Extensions To The Website..........
posted by Administrator 04/17/2006 09:04:06
Three new exciting additions will be making their way to the website this week or are there already. (A) Sometime later today, our Roster function will be made available to all teams once again. Note: The link has been moved. Many of you were unable to find registration and rosters, so we have moved them from the Tools menu to the MAIN menu and we have made Rosters its own high level link. No excuse now for not being able to find it. What is new about the newly expanded roster function? (i) The behind the scenes administrative record-keeping on players has been revised and expanded e.g., who owns primary rights to a player, who does he play for on a secondary basis, date of his last release and from which owner, etc. All stuff to avoid arguments. Note: re: Primary/Secondary Player Status If you have a player on your roster with a Cut button instead of a Release button, it means he is listed "secondary" on your team and "primary" on somebody else's. If this is incorrect, you should cut that player and add him to your roster over again. That will correctly classify the player, assuming nobody else has him listed as primary on their roster, and he will be added to your roster as primary. Only primary has release rights. In the old system, any underage player was always listed as secondary by the website. We corrected many of the existing records involving this error but there are many players still uncorrected. (ii) The fun part that you see. Your old ENYTB roster is still there with all your old info preserved. That is where you add new players and cut/release old players and edit their roster info (same as before). It will look a little different but functionally it is the same. What's new is your ENYTB roster is NOT really your roster anymore. It is only the starting point. It defines all League eligible players you have signed to your team. All of your rosters e.g., AABC, NABF and PONY if your registered for PONY, will come from this masterlist but NOT all these players necessarily go on all of your sanctioned regular season rosters. For example, AABC limits you to 18 players on your roster. NABF allows 20. Players 19 and 20 can be added to your NABF roster. Also, AABC and NABF have different cut-off dates for signing players to tournament eligible rosters. AABC 14 doesn't let you add players after 6/15. AABC 15/16 it's July 1. NABF is two weeks before the regional tournament in your age division. PONY allows only 15 players on the tournament roster at 16u and below. And PONY doesn't allow underage players except at 18u. ENYTB's new roster system incorporates all these rules. The new roster function is a three step process instead of one. (a) First you add the player to your ENYTB "roster" (league eligibility list). This masterlist includes all roster info for all League eligible players you have signed to your team. (b) Next you link players from your ENYTB roster list to your AABC/NABF/PONY REGULAR SEASON rosters. These are the official rosters that we will print and send to the nationals to register your team. Note: We now register every ENYTB team with both AABC and NABF. Thus every team must set up both an AABC and NABF regular season roster in this manner. Note re: PONY Rosters - We only register teams with PONY that selected PONY reg/tournament eligibility. Thus, only those teams need to set up a PONY regular season roster. 2006 PONY Exception - ALL 14u teams will be registered with PONY this year, at league expense, to make every player eligible for our 14U PONY ALL-STAR team. Thus, all 14u teams need to set up a PONY roster. (c) At the end of the season, those of you that qualify for AABC/NABF/PONY tournament berths, will need to prepare tournament rosters. The new roster function enables you to: (i) link the players from your REGULAR SEASON Roster (same affiliation) to your sanctioned Tournament Roster; AND, (ii) to draft your players to your Tournament Roster ONLINE from ANY eligible team in the League, which it will determine which teams you are eligible to draft from, based on the drafting rules of that affiliation! Neat, huh? Please hold off on using the drafting feature until after our draft meeting at the end of the regular season. NOTE: The roster print functions have NOT been reconnected yet. Because of the new roster function and the conversion to a more powerful database manager during the off-season, this code needs substantial editing. We still hope to have that ready to go by May 15. Until then, don't freak out about not having hardcopy of your rosters. Also, remember, the only roster you need to print out is your AABC roster because you need to have it signed by players, parents and coaches. The NABF and PONY regular season rosters do NOT need signatures, therefore I can print them off myself. What's important is that you get ALL your players on your website rosters (ENYTB, AABC, NABF and PONY if applicable) BEFORE they play in a League game. (B) New Feature For Members With Their Own Website (located in Owner Home) Was Recently Added - You can now upload your logo to ENYTB.com, along with your organization's name and have it click through to you to your website. This feature will direct traffic to your website and allow potential new players to find you. Neat, huh? And it's an absolutely free service. We are working on providing you with an ENYTB icon that you can put on your website and link back to us. (C) League email function will available by mid-week (Tools/Contact Info/Send Email). This function has been added primarily as an ADMIN function to target group email. Current league email operates off fixed lists maintained separate from the website. As a result, many current coaches aren't on our list and don't receive our email. This function will eliminate that problem. But the email function also has been designed to allow our members, owners or teams, to send group email their own coaches, players or both. In addition, an email link will be added next to each person's name in our contact info directory (Tools) so that you can look a person up and click his email button, and have an email addressed to that person, ready for entering your message. I instructed our developers NOT to let members direct emails to the entire league - you can imagine the consequences of giving that kind of power to certain folks.......
