Keep up-to-date on Tournament Results for all ENYTB Hosted Tournaments via New Tournament Manager
posted by Administrator 07/08/2009 01:07:34
It's not finished yet but it is operational and the major hurdle has been overcome - the development of a highly flexible Bracket-Maker Tool. During June the league hosted 15 sanctioned tournaments and all of them were administered before during and after via TM.BRACKET_MAKER.....No matter how complex or how big the tournament, Bracket-Maker is able to quickly and easily represent virtually any tournament format or combination of formats desired, including the very complicated multi-phase Olympic Style format! TM has a random seeder. It can randomnly seed all teams at once, or, you can manually seed a subset of teams and randomly seed the remaining teams. For pool play, it will randomly sort teams into pools. During the Berth Awards/Tournament Meetings, the applicable tournament brackets can be quickly constructed and the tournament schedule can be entered. The teams also can be randomly or manually seeded and a copy of the finished product can be printed and given to each team to take home, giving them plenty of time to inform their families of when, where and against whom they will be playing. TM also is equipped with a built-in field and team conflict checker. And it has a schedule function that lists all games in chronological order as well as by field (great for field hosts and umpires). For field directions, simply click the field name on the brackets. Draw rounds are identified on the brackets, along with the time and place for the draw meetings (attendance optional). There are two broad categories of tournaments that ENYTB hosts: sanctioned and open/league tournaments i.e. unsanctioned. TM handles both kinds. By early fall we will have consolidated all tournament functions into this single location. We are in the midst of integrating online registration and pre-tournament tracking of registrations at this time. To get to TM, simply:Inside The League > Tournaments > Hosted TournamentsScroll down and select the hosted tournament you interested in:(i) Select Sanctioning Body(ii) Select Tournament Level(iii) Select Exact Tournament From ListYou are now on the Home Page of the tournament you selected. All information available for your selected tournament is accessible from this page e.g., event flyers, brackets'schedule (if available), rules, tie-breakers, other registered teams, etc.If you are logged in, you can register online by simply clicking the registration button in the top menu bar and then the sign-up button. Non-members of ENYTB also can register online for OPEN tournaments. Once payment is received from non-members, TM issues them a TM password. With their password, non-members can log-in and and access all tournament participant information and functions. The menu bar at the top of the Home Page enables you to navigate to the tournament brackets and/or schedule. (All ENYTB hosted tournaments are updated nightly when in progress. Teams advance as scores are entered and scores are clearly shown on the brackets.) The same menu bar also has a function that lets you switch to other ENYTB Hosted tournaments. The Home Page is about 3/4 complete at this point but what is there is fully operational. This includes the foundation for TM - the bracket and schedule tools. Online registration for tournaments has been integrated to the home page at this point. Tournament rosters, lineup cards and player stats/game report capability and a secure log-in for non-ENYTB members participating in ENYTB hosted tournaments is still under development. An email function will be constructed that will quickly address email, including a pdf of the tournament brackets, to all tournament participants, thereby enhancing communications. Our local hotel and restaurant directory, designed to assist out-of-town teams find quality, affordable accommodations will be included as well.Almost a year on the drawing board and almost a year in the making, Tournament Manager will make the administration of and participation in ENYTB hosted tournaments more efficient and enjoyable by minimizing the hassle factor associated with managing the exchange of information between teams and the tournament administrator/director.Ed
