I have recently learned there will probably be a new league established in the local baseball marketplace next year. Those of our members with the stronger teams may be heavily recruited to join the new league. We at ENYTB view this as just another battle in the 12 year local Civil War between our league and those who previously had virtual monopol... read more

[10U DIVISION NEWS]

All of our registered teams at 10U were UNavailable to advance in either the AABC or PONY National Championship Tournament Series. Thus, the league will NOT be conducting a 10U AABC State Championship or PONY Section Championship and will not be sending a team to the next level in either Series. We have however, filled all three berths at both 11U and 12U.The following teams will compete in our entry level AABC/PONY tournaments for the right to advance in the National Championship Tournament Series:(1) 11U AABC State Championship(a) Sportsmaster 11(b) Capital City Athletics 11(c) Ballston Spa 11(2) 12U AABC State Championship(a) Syracuse Jr. Sky Chiefs (Red) 12(b) Halfmoon Mariners 12(c) Ballston Spa 12(3) 11/12 PONY section Championship(a) Syracuse Jr. Sky Chiefs (Red) 12(b) Halfmoon Mariners 12(c) Ballston Spa 12Note: Since the same teams have qualified for both 12U tournaments, those tournaments will be run as a single tournament and played under the official tournament rules of AABC, which are quite similar to the official PONY tournament rules. The AABC rule handbook can be read/printed at http://www.aabc.us/handbook/ Of course, the team that advances in PONY will play by official PONY tournament rules in all subsequent level PONY tournaments. As agreed prior to the beginning of the season, the 1st place team at 12U shall have the option of advancing in the National Championship Tournament Series of its choice and the 2nd place team shall receive a berth to advance in whichever National Championship Tournament Series is still available. Thus, the first 12U team eliminated is the only 12U team NOT advancing. Before we get into the tournament details and paperwork requirements, I want to discuss "drafting".AABC allows each team to draft up to 3 players for tournament play. These players must come from other AABC registered teams in their own age division. All teams are eligible to draft beginning with this email. No order will be followed. Use the website "draft" function to lock your picks in.Req Info > Rosters > AABC > DraftIf you are PONY registered (all 12U teams) also draft on the same players on the PONY side.Req Info > Rosters > PONY > DraftIf you have any trouble doing this contact me.Rules on drafting - speak to the player's coach as a courtesy, to inform him you are going to draft his player(s). Contact the player's family and ask for their consent. Once you have the family's consent, add the player to your tournament roster(s) by drafting him online. If the player does NOT consent to being drafted by your team he is ineligible to be drafted by another team. You must inform me ASAP of any players that turn you down.NOTE: After the 12U tournament is over, the team advancing in PONY will be given additional time to draft additional players for advancing (including from teams that you defeated at our Section tournament. PONY teams may draft an unlimited number of players from as many as 10 different eligible teams. The roster limit is 15 players however. You can drop players from your regular season PONY roster to make room for drafted eligible players IF AN ONLY IF THOSE PLAYERS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PLAY THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT. PONY rules forbid dropping players to just to create room for better players.SITE:Ballston Spa is our tournament host. All games will be played at the Doubleday Fields in Ballston Spa. Rick Miller is the Site Director and a member of the three man tournament committee. I am the Tournament Director and head of the tournament committee. A 3rd member will be appointed prior to the tournament.FORMAT:It is a double elimination event with play beginning on Saturday, June 23. Two rounds of one game each will be played on Saturday and Sunday, with a 5th game on Monday night if necessary.Times for Saturday play will be 3pm and 6pm. Times for Sunday play will be 1pm and 4pm. The time for Monday's IF game will be 6pm.With an odd number of teams, there will be byes in the first three rounds.Byes have been assigned as follows:10U ByesThe 1st Round Bye = Ballston Spa 11The 2nd Round Bye = the loser of G1The 3rd Round Bye = the team that hasn't had a bye.12U ByesThe 1st Round Bye = Ballston Spa 12The 2nd Round Bye = the loser of G1The 3rd Round Bye = the team that hasn't had a bye. This bye structure ensures that no team is eliminated on the first day and gives the host club an opportunity to get volunteers to help throughout the tournament.NOTE: The website will have the seeded brackets available by early to mid-week. The text below walks you though how it it will work.If a team is undefeated on day 1, the once-defeateds will pair up on Sunday at 1pm and the loser will be eliminated. The winner will then play the undefeated team at 4pm on Sunday (RD 4). If the undefeated team wins the RD 4 game, the tournament is over. If the undefeated team loses the RD 4 game, both teams come back Monday night and play the Championship Game (RD 5). Remember, at 12U, the runner-up team will advance in whatever sanctioning body the winner did not choose.Alternatively, if all three teams are once-defeated at the end of play on day 1, the team w/o a bye will get the bye and the remaining two once-defeateds will play RD 3 at 1pm on Sunday, and the loser will be eliminated. The winner will then play the remaining once-defeated team in RD 4 on Sunday at 4pm and that will be the Championship game. Again, at 12U, the runner-up team will advance in whatever sanctioning body the winner did not choose.Paperwork required BEFORE you play:(1) Tournament Rosters(a) AABC - signed regular season roster (last filed with ENYTB) plus tournament roster IF you drafted players. Only the drafted players/parents need to sign the tournament roster.(b) PONY - PONY tournament roster (affadavit) available online (see above). Draft your plaers online before printing this roster. No player/parent signatures required. print off pitching record page too if available.(2) Scorebook proving each player on your tournament roster played in at least 3 league games in the 2007 season.NOTE: Regular season rosters at 10U-11U-12U for AABC and PONY are now locked-down.Also required for advancement is:(3) Birth certificates(4) Proof of InsuranceHave some arrive at the field at least 90 minutes ahead of time to submit team paperwork for certification. Teams will NOT be allowed on the field for practice until their paperwork has been processed and is acceptable. That about does it. I'm looking forward to a great time. As always, team managers are responsible for the conduct of their players, parents, coaches and themselves. Misconduct will not be tolerated. Anyone ejected for any reason must sit out the next game. Anyone ejected for fighting is done. This about the kids. They have earned this weekend and by the end, three of six teams will be advancing to the next level. The 11U division is playing for a straight-in berth at the AABC World Series! So there is much to celebrate. Let's be as competitive as we can w/o going over the line and becoming obnoxious or worse.Thank you.Ed
