An informal vote of all teams present at 16U-18U showed 8-2 favored wood bat. Since not enough 16U teams were present for a binding vote, wood bats will be continued at all ages 16U and up for 2011. This includes 15U teams when they play 16U teams.Tom Swimm (Halfmoon Mariners 13U) raised the issue of whether, under ENYTB's new system for awarding NCTS berths, would an AABC berth be earmarked to the AABC registered Low Silver team with the best record in each age division. ENYTB had followed a similar practice under the old berth awards system. Discussion ensued and w/o objection, the ENYTB Members Council voted 2-0 to continue this practice provided there are at least four AABC registered Low Silver teams in an age division. Thus, the Low Silver team with the best record among all AABC registered Low Silver teams in their age division shall be guaranteed (earmarked) advancement to the AABC NCTS provided there are at least four such registered teams.Tom Greco (NYCD Knights 17U) inquired re: custom scheduling, whether, as a courtesy, Albany teams could be given 12PM starts when they play in Utica/Rome etc. Discussion followed and Ed Frye pointed out that Utica Area clubs have multiple teams and that their home fields are fully scheduled for weekend play. In addition, rental time at DeLutis Field in Rome is in such high demand that teams have little or no control over starting times. For teams traveling to Syracuse and/or Poughkeepsie, it should be no problem to schedule doubleheaders not to start before 11:00AM. Using the website and handouts above, Ed Frye led a discussion of the "My Team" menu and the 2011 ENYTB Program. General areas covered included:Team Registration Status - All clubs and teams can use this summary table to easily track their progress in satisfying the league's various registration information requirements (10 items). Paperwork/Hardcopy - Except for certain documents, clubs and teams can enter all registration information requirements interactively via the website. This page identifies the documents that can not be entered to website (proof of age, proof of team insurance, signed AABC roster) that need to be provided to Sharon (sharon@enytb.com). Sharon discussed these items, the format that they should be provided if possible (scan/email) etc. Sharon will enter receipt of these documents on the website so that members know their registration status at all times. Sharon noted that these documents must be received by MAR 15, the date registration closes, for these ages. The same is true for all registration information entered directly to the website by members. In the event of extenuating circumstances, members are to contact Sharon and give her the reason and the expected time when the information will be provided. Failure to meet these deadlines will prevent your team from being scheduled for league play.Sanctioned National Championship Tournament Series (NCTS) - Results for 2010 were discussed as well as the full set of NCTS available to ENYTB members in 2011, including those recently added - CABA and GSA.Information was provided re: activation, registration, scheduling and rosters. An information flowchart for determining a player's league status and associated release requirement was also provided.Customized Scheduling - Ed demonstrated the website's capabilities for accepting detailed information on team availability. Sharon will be collecting and confirming that information with each team as well as field availability info. Sharon discussed the best way for providing this information to her as well as how people may want to go about letting her know they are ready to provide the info or have it reviewed by Sharon.Ed also discussed the trade-off between specifying unnecessarily tight constraints on your team availability and getting a good schedule. When you over-restrict your availability to give yourself a perfect schedule e.g., 12 noon every Sunday, you are limiting the number of match-ups that are possible for you. Thus, rather than play a perfect opponent a little earlier or later than 12pm, you run the risk of playing a much stronger or weaker opponent exactly at 12pm. Ed also discussed the trade-off between strength-of-schedule and diversity of schedule, particularly when the number of teams in your age/competition level is small.Rosters - Ed demonstrated how clubs release players on the website as well as how to construct a regular season sanctioned roster.New RulesSchedule Reliability and Mandated Limits On Discretionary Schedule Changes As Well As Play or Forfeit on All Long Distance Travel.Revised Tampering PenaltiesIf you host for AABC, you better negotiate with them for a host berth because you will not be eligible for an AABC berth from ENYTB.Misc - including new Unlimted EH rule and Composite Aluminum Bat Restrictions. Also, club and team home pages have an official complaint form for reporting complaints against fellow members e.g., tampering etc. These complaint forms are official i.e., they will be investigated and the league will make a formal decision on them. All complaints must be submitted via these forms. No more telephone complaints please. Too many times, people call me with complaints and then decide after the fact they don't want to do anything about it. Once a written complaint is submitted, it can not be withdrawn. The rest of the meeting was divided between discussing the league's new approach for qualifying for sanctioned tournament play in AABC, NABF and PONY, and the CABA/GSA World Series Qualifiers to be hosted by ENYTB. Lots of good feedback was received.AABC/PONY/NABF - A table was presented showing how teams will qualify for advancement two different ways: through a qualifying tournament seeded by the standings, and through regular season play alone. Ed indivcated that if league registrations under NABF were sufficient in an age division, he would purchase a 2nd NABF in those age divisions, thus ensuring that at least one NABF berth would be available through the QT and one to the highest finishing team based on regular season NABF standings alone. One AABC berth will be reserved for the top finishing AABC registered team based on regular season AABC standings as well. In the PONY division, Ed explained his attempts to get a 2nd berth from PONY were generally successful. PONY believes, for team travel cost reasons, it is important that their tournaments remain small so that they require a minimum of overnight stay. However, PONY said if there any unclaimed berths, they would be offered to ENYTB at a later time. Under the assumption that only one PONY berth is available, a compromise was struck: the team that finishers 1st in the QT, if it is PONY registered, may select the single available PONY berth if it wishes. If the 1st place team does not take the PONY berth for reason of ineligibility or any other, that berth shall revert to the PONY division team highest in the final PONY standings. Were ENYTB to have only one NABF or AABC berth available in an age division, the same proccedure would be followed for those berths. Presentation/Interest in CABA/GSA World Series Qualifiers - There seemed to be a fair degree of interest in CABA, CABA Xtra and GSA World Series Qualifiers. ENYTB is discounting a guaranteed berth in a CABA WS Qualifier in another league by 50% provided the same team also registers for the ENYTB hosted CABA WS Qualifiers. Should a team win both Qualifiers it would be free to sell a berth. If you are interested in any of the CABA/GSA options, please sign up for them on your registration page as soon as possible. Once I know I have sufficient interest in an age division for the CABA Xtra deal, I will finalize my exchange proposal with those leagues. It is our intent to draw outside teams to our CABA/GSA World Series Qualifiers.Dates for all ENYTB hosted tournaments were discussed and are shown on the website as well on each team's registration page.NCTS Discount Packages - A table was presented showing the various discount packages available to teams choosing two or more option for sanctioned tournament play.Last Man Standing - ENYTB gone back to the old "$200 entry fee and pay your own umpires" system for these tournaments rather than the $500 all-inclusive package. In addition, these tournaments are offered at two different competition levels: high and high/medium vs low and low medium.
