ENYTB Introduces Hybrid All-In-One Qualifying Format To Advance Teams To Sanctioned National Championship Tournament Series In AABC, PONY and NABF ...

ENYTB Introduces Hybrid All-In-One Qualifying Format To Advance Teams To Sanctioned National Championship Tournament Series In AABC, PONY and NABF ...Prior to 2011, ENYTB qualified teams for sanctioned tournament play via an "eligibility-fee based, earn-your-way through regular season play only" approach. Teams made themselves eligible by paying a sanctioning fee which covers only a small portion of the tournament berth. Which teams actually qualify from the pool of sanctioned teams was determined solely by the results of regular season league competition. The obvious benefit of this approach was that it was low cost i.e., the eligibility fees paid by teams were much less than the full cost of a tournament berth because the cost of the berth was shared among all eligible teams. The downside to this pure eligibility approach however, was that it guaranteed a team nothing since only a portion of all eligible teams actually qualified for sanctioned tournament play.ENYTB's new hybrid all-in-one approach offers teams the best of all worlds:It guarantees every paying team a berth in an end-of-season tournament with unlimited advancement possibilities; It keeps the cost of participation low;It ensures that there is competitively balanced play at every round of the tournament; and,It rewards teams for a good regular season record. This hybrid qualifying format includes an all-in-one qualifying tournament hosted by ENYTB wherein all paying teams are guaranteed a berth. Prizes include berths to the AABC, PONY and NABF sanctioned national championship tournament series. 50% of these berths are awarded as prizes to the top finishing teams in the qualifying tournament. The other 50% will be reserved and awarded to teams based exclusively on regular season standings alone but only to those teams that did not win berths via the qualifying tournament. (NOTE: If there is an odd number of berths in the age division, the extra berth is awarded based on the tournament results.) In all cases, the teams that win berths via the qualifying tournament shall be given first choice, based on their order of finish, as to which berth they want. Of course, teams can only select those berths that are eligible for e.g., a team that did not register under PONY can not select a PONY berth even if the only berth remaining is a PONY berth. In the latter case, the berth would go to the next highest finishing team that was PONY eligible. Moreover, to encourage teams in the lowest competitive classification to participate in this type of tournament, a "bottom-up" format will be employed to ensure competitively balanced play at every round of the tournament while simultaneously rewarding teams with better regular season records.AABC/PONY/NABF All-In-One Qualifier TournamentFee = $300/$250, includes all (three or two) sanctioning fees and tournament baseballs and trophies. Teams will pay their own ump fees in tournament. Single Elimination/Bottom-up format designed to produce balanced competition for all teams. Example........12 teams enteredRD1 = bottom 6 teams (all match-ups = high v low seed i.e., 7 v 12, 8 v 11, 9 v 10)RD2 = 3 survivors plus next three higher teamsRD3 = 3 survivors plus 3 remaining higher teamsRD4 = 3 survivors (1 bye (by random draw))RD5 = 2 survivors (championship game)11 total gamesBERTHS - If there are 5 berths in the age division, 3 go to tournament i.e., top 3 finishing tournament teams win choice of remaining berths, assuming they are eligible for them. In this example, all teams alive in RD4 would advance to a sanctioned NCTS assuming they were eligible for whatever berths fell to them. The remaining two berths i.e., divisional berths, go to the two highest finishing, based on the standings from regular season play, eligible teams. To be eligible you must be sanctioned the same as the berth and you did not win a berth via the qualifying tournament. Teams that win the qualifying tournament shall have first pick. All remaining tournament based berth winners pick based on their order of finish in the tournament. Tournament berths must selected immediately after the tournament is concluded. Divisional berths shall be determined at the end of regular season play, based on the final order of finish. All results from the all-in-one qualifying tournament shall also count in the regular season standings. The single elimination/bottom-up format produces a competitively balanced tournament i.e., weaker teams play weaker teams early, and then the better teams jump in as the tournament progresses. It gives the weaker teams a reason for getting in while rewarding teams with better records with early round byes and high seed vs low seed match-ups. Teams can elect to be tournament eligible under one sanctioning only for between $150 and $175, but they would be risking losing out altogether if the berth(s) they are eligible for are all selected by higher qualifying teams before they get to exercise their pick. To encourage teams to be eligible under all available national sanctionings, thereby increasing their chances of qualifying into a sanctioned NCTS, ENYTB is offering a significantly discounted "all-in-one" eligibility package (savings of $75 to $150). See your team's online registration page for further details. The hybrid qualifying approach described above will be used by ENYTB to advance teams to AABC, PONY and NABF sanctioned national championship tournament series (NCTS) for all ages 18U and under.
