Looking Forward to 2011 and Beyond...No league is perfect but we try. Schedule reliability is probably the most common problem shared by all leagues. ENYTB provides teams with a custom schedule yet some teams put little effort into the inputs they provide, under the assumption they can change the schedule any time they want, as they want. This is n...

ENYTB is pleased to announce that it is open for business for the 16th consecutive year, offering the Capital District and surrounding area an independent, comprehensive and highly flexible program of travel baseball for teams at all ages and skill levels from 8U through Adult. With more than 150 registered teams in 2010, including teams from as far away as Syracuse, Poughkeepsie and Pittsfield, MA., it is evident that the baseball community in this region greatly values the opportunity to participate in a highly differentiated, custom and well organized travel baseball program. We thank our members for their continued and enthusiastic support! The General ProgramNew MembersENYTB customizes its program to the abilities, needs and wants of each member team. New members are always welcome provided they have a roster of players not already playing in the league or committed to an existing team. With limited exceptions, the league does not allow its existing teams' rosters to be cannibalized by new teams joining the league. What Are You Looking For In A League?ENYTB's league program is a major advance over the more traditional "cookie cutter" type leagues that can be characterized as one-size-fits-all programs. Though far easier to operate, such simple programs, by definition, lack the structure, flexibility and human resources to satisfy the needs and preferences unique to each team (and they don't try to). While the simpler one-size-fits-all programs still abound, in terms of member satisfaction, they are akin to putting a square peg in a round hole. The ENYTB program has been designed from its inception to avoid the many pitfalls of the one-size-fits-all kind of leagues. We believe that if given a choice, travel teams will always prefer:more flexibility to less, custom programs to non-custom programs, competitive balance to no balance; and, more post-season opportunity to less.ENYTB's league program is the leader in each of these categories while the one-size-fits-all programs sit at the bottom in every category. That's just fact. Teams that settle for less i.e., one-size-fits-all league programs, run a high risk of having a very disappointing or even abysmal season because of it. They also don't know what they are missing!Flexibility, Customization and Abundance Of Post-Season OpportunityTeams look to leagues to provide them two specific things: a high quality regular season schedule and abundant opportunities to qualify for high quality, sanctioned, national championship tournament series. A high quality schedule must accommodate the team's preferences for when to play, how much to play and strength of schedule. One-size-fits-all leagues are unable to provide any of the above. Instead, they force teams to play their games on certain days and at certain times and, to play every other team a fixed number of times. By forcing teams to play teams much weaker as well as teams much stronger, schedules are not competitively balanced. Lopsided competition is no competition at all. High vs Low Berth RatiosOne-size-fits-all programs also are typically affiliated with a single sanctioning body. Consequently, they offer their members very limited post-season opportunities. The "berth ratio" in ENYTB is nearly three times that in a single sanctioned league. The berth ratio is defined as the total number of sanctioned tournament berths that the league qualifies for divided by the total number of member teams. This means, before the first pitch of the season is thrown, ENYTB teams are three times more likely to qualify for a sanctioned national championship tournament series than teams in a single sanctioned league.ENYTB teams have won national sanctioned World Series competitions in each of the last four years while no other local league has won one in its entire existence. The reasons for this are many but two of the most important are competitively-balanced regular season scheduling and more opportunities for sanctioned tournament play due to ENYTB's centralized access to five different sanctioning bodies. Thus, ENYTB teams are not only more likely to qualify for sanctioned tournament play but, once they get there, they are more prepared to compete. Another shortcoming of one-size-fits-all programs is that they require each member to share in the cost of the entire program, causing some teams to have to pay for things they don't not want in order to participate. ENYTB's fully ala carte registration system allows teams to choose what they want and only pay for what they take. What We Do For You To Create Your Perfect SeasonAs stated above, ENYTB's league program is designed to satisfy the needs and preferences of each member team. If all teams were exactly the the same and wanted the same things, the one-size-fits-all approach, except for their low berth ratios, would work just fine, but team competitiveness is a continuum from high to low and each team, regardless of where it is in that continuum, also has its own unique preferences regarding scheduling, including strength-of-schedule, and sanctioned tournament play. To impose a single scheduling formula across all teams is to do each an injustice. ENYTB's high quality and comprehensive member services address the various shortcomings of the one-size-fits-all approach and more, including:Scheduling that is competitively balanced and customized to a wide range of other scheduling criteria;Centralized access to sanctioned tournament play under as many as five different national sanctioning bodies; and,Ala carte registration that ensures each member only pays for what it takes;A next generation website that is customized to mirror all facets of the league program while offering members a great number of automated productivity tools as well as a real-time 24/7 view of everything in the league as it happens;the website also includes controls to ensure that league limits on the number of games a team can (non-weather) postpone or cancel w/o penalty are strictly enforced;ENYTB also monitors and investigates all reported incidents and complaints and fairly adjudicates all inter-members disputes according to our league Constitution and By-Laws;ENYTB also hosts at least one entry-level sanctioned tournament in every age division, involving considerable league resources. The website also includes a full service tournament management capability; and,The league also conducts several informational meetings for the membership during Late Jan, Feb and early March. In short, ENYTB provides its members with a comprehensive and high quality program of services whereby each member team can obtain a custom regular season and post-season program by simply stating its preferences on each of the major dimensions of their participation. Any two teams can be similar or different in any number of respects, it doesn't matter, ENYTB will use the information provided by each to develop a custom regular season and post-season program to match the unique preferences of each. We are aware of no other youth sports league in the world that offers this amount of flexibility and customization. Your Part In Making It All Work For YouAs you might guess, providing such a highly differentiated and custom program requires a much higher level of administrative effort as compared to the one-size-fits-all programs. As a result, teams might pay a bit more for this kind of program, but they are assured of getting the experience they want, provided they are willing to put in the small extra effort required on the front end to take advantage of the flexibility, member services and opportunities offered by the program. More specifically, to register for the right post-season opportunities, you need to understand the details of what is available to your team and the trade-offs that exist. To know this you need to go to your team's age division meeting, To obtain a schedule that meets your scheduling needs and preferences regarding when to play, how much to play, etc. you need to provide the league with accurate scheduling inputs that reflect those preferences. And, to obtain a competitively balanced schedule, you must register your team in the appropriate competitive class and you must provide the league with your explicit preferences as to the strength-of-schedule that you prefer. Many people make the mistake of waiting until the schedule comes out, or the season begins or the season ends, to take these registration matters seriously. By then it is too late. Once scheduling begins, your choices are locked in. If you have made uninformed choices you are forced to live with them and as a result, you will not get the highest level of satisfaction from the league that would have been possible. No two teams have the same "perfect". Thus, no matter how good the league, w/o your help and cooperation in defining what is perfect for you, it is impossible to create the prefect program for your team. Your job is to figure out what your perfect is before the fact, and to communicate that to us. Our job is to do the rest i.e., make your "perfect" happen.NOTE: Since each scheduled game requires a matching of perfects between two different team, there will be times when scheduled games do not exactly match a team's every stated preference but we come as close as possible.
