New In 2008 - NABF 14U Regional Tournament Will Be Conducted in Two Divisions - One For 13U Teams and One For 14U Teams - Winner Of Each Division Will Advance To NABF World Series And Runner-Ups Will Advance To 13U and 14U PONY Regional Tournaments!!!
posted by Administrator 12/18/2007 06:12:42
Official dates for the NABF National Championship Tournament Series (Regionals and World Series) have been announced and can be found on our Tournaments menu as well as on each team's online registration page.As usual, ENYTB will be hosting four NABF Regionals this year:NABF 14U beginning July 10;NABF 16U beginning July 17;NABF 18U beginning July 19;NABF 22U beginning July 22.For the past several years, the NABF has scheduled its 16U and 18U Regional tournaments to begin one day apart. This year, at my request, they have staggered the starts by two days, with the 16s starting on Thursday and the 18s on Saturday. Fridays were killers under the old format - requiring 20 plus tournament games. And, as previously announced, all NABF tournaments from 16U and up are now wood bat only (composite bats are legal). And the big news, today, Charlie Blackburn Jr, NABF Executive Director, has agreed to give ENYTB two berths to the NABF 14U World Series, instead of the usual one. And it gets better, since Brooklyn has been granted its own NABF Regional tournament this year at 14U, our NABF 14U Regional tournament will consist of ALL ENYTB registered teams. So, this will be a golden opportunity for two ENYTB registered teams to qualify for a World Series. (NOTE: UABA gets its own berth to this tournament but its teams are double registered in ENYTB.) Last year the So. Troy Dodgers won this tournament and represented our region in Cincinatti, OH., finishing a close 3rd at the Series.STRUCTURE/FORMAT (tentative): Two divisions - one for 13U teams and one for 14U teams. The winner of each tournament division advances to the NABF World Series and receives $2,000 for travel from the NABF. The league will purchase six berths in each tournament plus a host plus one UABA berth = 8 teams per tournament. Both tournaments will be run as a double elimination events, and play under NABF rules. In addition, since this year's NABF and PONY tournaments in the 13U and 14U divisions will include only ENYTB teams, they could be run jointly as NABF/PONY tournaments. In that case, the top two teams in each tournament would advance - the winner to the NABF WS and the runner-up to the PONY Regional. (This would make the awards ceremony a happier event for all.)Furthermore, w/o outside teams, ENYTB has some latitude in scheduling when these tournaments would begin. Thus, they could be coordinated around the AABC State tournaments at the same age divisions so that teams would be available to participate in both:July 3 = AABC SK14 State Tournament and NABF/PONY13 RegionalJuly 10 = AABC SK13 State Tournament and NABF/PONY14 RegionalThis proposal will be discussed and voted on at our Jan 6 Executive Board meeting.
