Many of you lamented losing the ability in 2007 to enter your own team availability data directly to the website. The reason this was done was that the old forms were confusing to some members and as a result, we were not getting accurate information for a good number of teams. Solution: The website forms for collecting team availability informatio...

Schedule reliability is of crucial importance to member satisfaction. Much time, effort and resources...

I recently attended both the PONY and NABF national meetings. Below is a list of important changes that will affect us in 2008.PONY(1) Player eligibility in all age divisions has been redefined as "And Under" i.e., no more age minimums. For example, 12 year olds can now participate on 13U teams. NOTE: This change goes through the Zone level. At the World Series level, the age minimums still apply.(2) PONY has restructured its registration fees for the 18U division, bringing it in line with all other age divisions. As a result, ENYTB will offer PONY 18U tournament eligibility on a competitive basis for the first time ever in 2008. Because of the previous fee structure, ENYTB offered this berth in past years as a direct buy-in only.(3) ENYTB has been selected to host the PONY 18U Regional. This will be a five team tournament and ENYTB will have two of the five berths allowed. Winner of this tournament will advance to the PONY Zone in western PA with allowances for travel expenses. Zone winners are flown from the Zone site to the World Series the next day at PONY's expense.(4) All PONY World Series games will be broadcast on the internet this year and some of the final games will be broadcast on national television (FOX). In addition, FOX will provide regional telecasts in the home areas of various participants.(5) PONY/ENYTB and the host of the PONY 12U Regional tournament agreed to sanctions on the Syracuse Jr. Sky Chiefs for failure to advance in the 12U championship tournament series this past summer. ENYTB also agreed not to send any more elite travel teams to their tournaments, where elite is defined as teams from large population areas with no restrictions on player acquisition and no significant intra-league competition for players. NABF(1) Players/teams are now eligible to participate in both the 17U and 18U National Championship Tournament Series in the same year. National sanctioning bodies usually limit teams/players to appearances in a single tournament series each year.(2) Players/teams are now eligible to participate in both the 22U and UNL National Championship Tournament Series in the same year.(3) The ban on metal bats was extended to include the Junior Division tournaments (16U). All NABF tournaments, ages 16U and up, are now limited to wood and/or composite bats. Will they extend that ban to 14U next year? Probably.(4) NABF suspended the Long Island Tigers for one year for abandoning the NABF 18U Regional tournament that we hosted this past summer.(5) NABF/ENYTB and the Buffalo league hosting last summer's UNLIMITED Regional agreed to impose sanctions on both the Waterford Fordians (Red) and West Albany Wildcats teams for failure to attend the NABF Unlimited Regional in Buffalo, NY this past summer. AAABA - I think I have the initials right but maybe not. They have a great World Series for teams 20U that has been hosted in western PA every year forever. We probably would not qualify for a direct shot berth but we would qualify for a berth in one of their regionals. 20U is a division that we have never had but with more and more teams graduating from ENYTB at 18U and merging with other ENYTB teams to form 22U teams, this would be an interesting add on to our program. I met a guy at the NABF meeting that used to be their national VP and he is going to steer me through their difficult new member application process.AABC - To be reported on at a later date.
