Cancellations and Finding Replacement Games
posted by Administrator 06/05/2007 11:06:33
Invariably, every season, some teams over-schedule themselves. Othersfind themselves misclassified. And still others simply put little orno effort in pre-planning their play dates. Whatever the reason, theresult is the same, teams that want to play baseball are gettingUNWANTED requests for non-weather postponements and/or cancellations, often on short notice. Prior to summarizing how you can use the website to help you findopponents to schedule extra games with. I will summarize ourrules/policy re: cancellations:GENERAL POLICY - Some people mistakingly think that it is alright toCANCEL EXTRA GAMES to RESCHEDULE MUST PLAY GAMES. This is NOTgenerally true. Teams are given the schedule they request and theexpectation is that teams have an equal obligation to play all gameson their schedule, regardless of game status (MUST PLAY or EXTRAGAME). The league does have a "Monsoon Safety Valve" in theConstitution that allows the President to declare this to be so andduring the last two weeks of the season ONLY, allow teams to givepreference to MUST PLAY Games and to cancel extra games w/o penalty. That is a league-wide determination. (1) Teams can NOT CANCEL games w/o league approval (except whenMonsoon Safety Valve is Invoked By President). (2) Teams that cancel games, forfeit games or have unplayed"postponed" games at season's end, without justification, can befined and suffer loss of tournament eligibility. If you are unable to play a game as scheduled, then you must informyour opponent ASAP to "postpone" the game. If a reschedule is notpossible or desired, the choices are as follows: (A) Must Play games can NOT be canceled. They are either played asscheduled, postponed/rescheduled or forfeited. (B) Extra games can be canceled but only with league approval. PROTOCOL FOR CANCELING EXTRA GAMESIf you are unable to play ANY game on your schedule or simply don'twant to play that opponent for competitive reasons:(a) Inform your opponent ASAP and get voice/email confirmation thathe is aware that you are either unable to play the game or have astrong preference not to play the game. (b) The home team should then postpone the game on their onlineschedule. (c) The team that initiated the postponement may then request acancellation from the league. The request should include the reasonfor the request as well as the opponent's position on thecancellation i.e., is the opponent agreeable to it. (d)If the league approves the cancellation request, the league willcancel the game. If the league disapproves the cancellation request, the league will direct both parties to reschedule the game and offerdates for doing so. As always, no action should be taken on the website prior toemail/voice confirmation between opponents. **********************************************************NOTE: We are revising the Cancel Game Function to prevent teams from bypassing any of our cancellation rules. (The cancel function is not visible on your online schedule until a game has been postponed. Once a game is canceled, it disappears from your current schedule. It can be found on your Schedule > History (marked canceled).) *****************************************************************What can you do when you lose games due to unwanted cancellations, especially on short notice, when plans to play are in place, to fill in the gaps? The good news is that there are probably other teams in the league ina similar position, wanting to play but also w/o an opponent. The trick is to find each other. The website provides members an easy to use but powerful tool for doing so.Tools > Pick-Up GamesThere are four different ways the Pick-Up Games tool can help you find opponents for pick-up games. (1) Search our Extra Game Bulletin Board (EGBB)(2) Post your request on our EGBB.(3) Search to find all opponents available on any given date. Available in this context means the indicated it was available forleague scheduling on that date but has no scheduled game on thatdate.(4) Search to find all matching availability dates with any givenopponent. This search function is also useful when looking for viablemake-up dates for postponed games. All of this is fully explained in:League Info > FAQ > Schedule Stuff > How do I find extra games afterthe season has begun.

I'm sorry I was unable to make it to Amsterdam on Monday as planned to take in a couple of TC Bees games at beautiful Shuttleworth Park. From Friday on,... read more

This information is very interdependent. Once games have been scheduled, changing a single piece of information can set off a ripple effect across the entire leagu... read more
