Invariably, every season, some teams over-schedule themselves. Othersfind themselves misclassified. And still others simply put little orno effort in pre-planning their play dates. Whatever the reason, theresult is the same, teams that want to play baseball are gettingUNWANTED requests for non-weather postponements and/or cancellations, often on sho...

Each year teams give me less and less availability for scheduling. Despite this, in the first week of the season, teams are postponing games at a record clip. It appears too many teams have too little time to play baseball.(1) Less than a week into the season and we have far too many postponements.Last night was a beautiful evening, sunny and 75 degrees, yet 5 out of 13 games (40%) were postponed, and most had nothing to do with the Sectionals (young teams). This ominous trend is continuing into the weekend as many teams failed to look ahead to prom weekend. One club wrote me this morning that three of its teams have had games postponed this week, and with only a 48 hour notification. This is very discouraging to me because I slaved for a month to collect all your scheduling data and another month to customize your schedules to that data, yet in the first week of the season, teams are postponing games at a record rate. Maybe customized scheduling is a waste. Maybe we should just give you a list of your must play opponents and let you schedule with each other.Postponed must play games must be made up, or no points are awarded to either team. LEAGUE RULE: Once a must play game is postponed, it must be played or neither team gets any points i.e., no must play forfeits are granted once a postponement is granted.I don't see any forfeits coming across the scoreboard. Instead, everybody is agreeing to postponements, without first agreeing to a make-up date. I have no idea how all of these games will be made up with so many teams with so little availability. Very risky business to give anyone a non-weather related postponement w/o first insisting on a make-up date.(2) Reschedule ErrorsMany teams are still using the ADD Game function to reschedule games instead of the Reschedule link on each home game, despite a new screen when you select ADD GAME that asks you if this game is a reschedule of a postponed game. As a result of this error, both teams will have incorrect W-L records and points in the STANDINGS. The website determines must play games in chronological order and ppd must play games are counted as must play games w/o a result IF THEY ARE NOT RESCHEDULED using the RESCHEDULE link. ADD GAME is intended for new games that the league NEVER scheduled for your team. They can include league or non-league opponents. It is there for one purpose only, so that league teams can put all their scheduled games in a single place. All of this and much much more is fully explained in:League Info > FAQ > Postponement Requests, Forfeits and Unplayed Games* Weather-Related Postponements - Actual Unplayable vs Threat* Everything You need To Know On This Subject!!!* How to POSTPONE and/or RESCHEDULE Games on the website. All disputes re: postponements and reschedules will be resolved according to the rules and policies provided therein.
The weather mostly cooperated, and well over 200 games were played this weekend. I spent Saturday and Sunday traveling to ballparks taking in the action and renewing acquaintances with many of you. I'm sorry I was unable to make it to Amsterdam on Monday as planned to take in a couple of TC Bees games at beautiful Shuttleworth Park. From Friday on,...

FYI: The league schedule is built in accordance with the information each team supplied to the League regarding the availability of its team and home field(s) throughout the 2007 season. This information is very interdependent. Once games have been scheduled, changing a single piece of information can set off a ripple effect across the entire leagu...
