ENYTB Expands Format of PONY Sectional Tournaments at 13U/14U/15U
posted by Administrator 02/03/2007 12:02:11
Since 1999, ENYTB's main program offering at 13U/15U has been AABC. But, as was discussed in both sessions of last weekend's annual Kick-Off meeting, the AABC program at 13U and 15U is not a good idea for teams lacking the financial wherewithal to travel across country at their own expense.1. AABC's entry-level tournament at 13U/15U is comprised mostly of ENYTB teams;2. AABC provides has no regional tournament at 13U/15U; and,3. The winner of the AABC entry-level tournament at 13U/15U must advance to a World Series (MI at 13U and OK at 15U), at their own expense. For 13U/15U teams that want to go to a World Series and have access to the significant financial resources required to pay for their own travel, the AABC 13U/15U program is a great opportunity. In fact, until 2006, ENYTB sent a team to these World Series events every year. However, because teams backed out last year, we are stressing that teams ought NOT register for AABC 13U/15U sanctioning/tournament eligibility UNLESS they are prepared to advance to the AABC 13U/15U World Series at their own expense. For this reason, it is important that the League offer these two important age groups alternative sanctioned tournament opportunities. ENYTB has already announced that it was adding a PONY Sectional tournament at the 13U-14U-15U age divisions. The initial proposal was quite modest i.e., to keep eligibility fees low tournament teams would pay their own game costs - as opposed to ENYTB's usual "all-inclusive" tournament eligibility fee. The size of the tournament in each age level was limited to one berth for each competition level as well as one for the ENYTB host and the UABA PONY League. ENYTB has decided to expand the tournament format as follows:(1) Number of Berths - 1 per 5 registrations with a minimum of 1 per competition level (gold-silver-bronze).(2) Fee Type - All inclusiveThe ENYTB tournament eligibility charges will be the same for PONY as AABC/NABF i.e., a $75 sanctioning fee (covers League registration costs with PONY) and a $75 tournament eligibility fee (to cover the cost of hosting). All teams that qualify for the tournament will play for free in that tournament. Each PONY Sectional winner advances to the PONY Regional (no travel reimbursement but only a 3 hour drive and played over the weekend). The PONY Regional winners, of course, qualify for travel reimbursement from that point on.Your team's customized registration page (see Req Info > Registration)already reflects these changes (13U-14U-15U only).
