ENYTB Members, With a little more than a week to go, about 10 ENYTB Babe Ruth travel clubs have decided to keep their ENYTB teams in ENYTB as they age up, thereby maintaining their franchise rights and all player protections and all other membership benefits. Notice I said ENYTB teams. ENYTB teams are teams that have been registered with ENYTB. What an ENYTB ember does with any of its teams that have never been registered in ENYTB has no effect on that member's eligibility for roster protection in this League. About 6 Babe Ruth travel clubs, however, remain in the "not yet declared/decided" category. The common sticking point for this group seems to be that they are wedded to the Henkel Leagues at 16/18 but "unhappy" with the prospect of losing their roster protection in this League at 13-14-15. ENYTB has offered a temporary compromise in this regard but as yet, it has garnered no interest. It seems to be unclear to this particular group that ENYTB is NEITHER telling anybody where they have to play NOR preventing anyone from continuing to play in this League, regardless of the choices they make with their teams at any age level. Since there seems to be considerable misunderstanding on this point, let me say it straight out again: any member who opts to register teams in the Henkel League at 16/18 may still register any of their other teams in this League but those teams would NOT be granted player protection. These six Babe Ruths insist that this policy is putting a gun to their heads. Hardly. As I've said many times, as far as we are concerned, everyone is free to put his teams in whatever League they choose, what has changed is that ENYTB is no longer going to provide player protection to members who having entered teams in this League and having received the benefits of player protection in this League, take those same teams to a rival travel league. This League will not be a safe-haven feeder program for its rivals. Some of the Babe Ruth travel clubs that seem wedded to the Henkel League have indicated they might continue to register teams in ENYTB even without player protection while others have given no indication either way. Thus, all that is known for sure, is whether they do or they don't, they won't have any player protection in this League if they "transfer or graduate" any of their ENYTB teams to a rival league. During the past week most of the "not-yet-declareds" informed me that their final decision was imminent and some thought they would announce their decision as early as Monday. For those that fail to respond, the decision will be made for them on March 1. SORENSCO and Rotterdam have failed to respond to this point. What does this mean for those of you still looking for players to fill out your 2006 rosters? As each remaining Babe Ruth member club informs me of its final intentions I will announce it to the League through email and post it on our website NEWS. In addition, ALL players on the rosters of teams in this League last year and owned by these clubs, will be RELEASED on the website. These players and their contact info will be posted on ENYTB's Free Agent Board. Any player on the Free Agent Board is fair game to be pursued, recruited etc. by ANY team in this League.
