PONY allots each League a single berth in each of its age division tournament series. (For that reason, bronze teams are not eligible to compete for PONY berths.) PONY's pricing policy in the 18U division is different than in the other age divisions, making it too costly to register multiple teams and allow them to compete for the single berth. Thu...

The Executive Board of ENYTB held two meetings this weekend to kick-off the new season, one on Saturday and a repeat performance on Sunday.Attendance at the two meetings combined totalled more than 80 individuals. Some organizations sent one or two people to represent all their teams, several prospective new members attended and some of the familiar faces that have been around for many years were there as well. A 7 page hand-out was distributed to those in attendance:(i) 2005 Season In Review(ii) What's New For 2006(iii) - Diagram of League Structure(iv) - Sanctioned Tournaments By Sanctioning Body, Age, Date and host type.(v) ENYTB Annual Cycle - 12 months grouped into five activity periods with some idea what actually goes on during each period, essentially a high level road map of teh league.(vi) How to Get Fully Registered in 7 Easy Steps.(vii) ENYTB Policy re: Non-exclusive members and player protection. For those of you that did not attend, I will have extra copies of the handout for distribution at our age division meetings. We also met with many of our Babe Ruth Travel Clubs after the break to discuss how ENYTB's new policy re: non-exclusive members would affect them specifically. We explained that our policy does NOT mandate exclusive participation in this League. What it does for the most part, is prevent ENYTB members from keeping player protection in this League IF they are funneling their ENYTB protected players to rival travel leagues as they age up. We are NOT willing to be a feeder program for rival leagues at the expense of our exclusive members having equal access to these players. Everyone we spoke to, once they understood what we were saying, saw nothing unfair with our policy. In the next two weeks many of the Babe Ruth clubs will be deciding what is in their best interest but early indications are that everyone who has contacted us is commiting their top teams to ENYTB if not all their teams. Very few have not contacted us. Between new members and growth among existing members, we are confident that the League will grow by another 25 to 50 teams in 2006. That is good for our members, as it allows us to balance your schedule with teams very close in both ability and location. We have added three more sanctioned tournaments to our hosting list, bringing the total to 10. We now host at least one sanctioned tournament at every age level. Your tournament eligibility fees are used to pay the game costs (umpired and balls) for these events. Depending on teh number teams involved, each tournament costs the League between $2,000 and $3,000 to host. Everything we collect in tournament eligibility fees goes to pay for these tournaments, benefiting our tournament hosts (our members) as well as the teams going to these tournaments who avoid time off from work as well as the significant costs for travel, lodging and food that would be necessary if these tournaments were hosted in distant cities. The NABF Classics at 13U and 15U generated a buzz of excitement among thjose with 13u and 15u teams. We envision a 24 team national tournament with a shotgun start on 12 lighted fields on Friday night, concluding with the three finalists in round-robin play on Monday at Doubleday Field in Coooperstown. We need hosts for all our sanctioned tournaments, as well as our ENYTB sponsored tournaments (Last Man Standing) and for Opening Weekend. If you want to host an ENYTB event as a fundraiser for your program, please contact me. There was modest interest in our new initiative called "Supplemental Travel". This is a free service where we would schedule inter-member games for in-house quality teams. It remains to be seen but it appears the majority of our Babe Ruth Travel Clubs were planning to use the new Babe Ruth Travel League for that function. As we pointed out, ENYTB members can register teams in the lower division w/o any loss of player protection in this League. Members that place teams in the upper division, however, will lose territory protection only, provided those teams were not roster protected in ENYTB. If an ENYTB member moves a roster protected team into a rival League, then they would lose roster protection at all age divisions.Website improvements were discussed, including significant speed and reliability improvements, a new password management system, the introduction of advertising, and a new organization of the content as well as a new menuing system for navigation that promises to be a breeze to use. Everyone was reminded to get activated as soon as possible.Attendees on Sunday were provided a special treat when ENYTB Executive VP Bill Kelts took ove rthe mike and mc'd the first half of teh meeting. It was a nice break for me and I thought Bill did a great job, I hope those in attendance appreciated the change of pace as well. ARE YOU ACTIVATED FOR UPCOMING 2006 SEASON? Club owners need to contact me to get activated. Be prepared to give me the email addresses for your managers and coaches if they are not in our database from last year. The new password management syatem uses everyone's email address as their user ID. No email, no password.
