ENYTB's Non-exclusive member policy.
posted by Administrator 02/10/2006 06:02:26
February 10, 2006Re: ENYTB Non-exclusive member policy. Definition: Non-exclusive member.Any ENYTB member that registers a team or teams in ENYTB and then, in the following year, registers that team or any of those teams in a rival travel league, including specifically the ENYBRTL or any division of either the ENYMM or ENYCM Leagues shall be classified a non-exclusive ENYTB member. Policy: Non-exclusive members shall have no player protection in ENYTB for any of its teams. RATIONALE: Players are the lifeblood of any sports league. Player protection is a benefit of league membership, designed to regulate the competition for players among members within that League. This League shall NOT provide members with player protection when they use that protection to funnel players to their teams in a rival league. This policy prevents non-exclusive members from using this League for that purpose. Player protection was never intended to provide non-exclusive members with a safe haven for their younger aged players until they became high school age. At one time, ENYTB did NOT have AABC sanctioning at 16 thru 18. That is no longer true. ENYTB has had its own AABC Mickey Mantle and Connie Mack Divisions since 2005. Our rival leagues offer NOTHING that is not available through ENYTB while ENYTB offers much that is not available in those Leagues. There is no longer any rational reason to participate in ENYTB at the younger ages and switch out at the older age levels. ENYTB is not prohibiting participation in these leagues but it will not assist members in supporting rival leagues. Exclusive members are the bread and butter of this League and because of the competition between us and the other three Leagues across all age levels, we owe our exclusive members every advantage possible to develop and maintain strong and viable franchises. The best way to do this is to deny player protection to non-exclusive members who pervert the meaning of player protection from its intended purpose. Members that maintain participation in both ENYTB and any of the aforementioned rival travel leagues, regardless of age, are unaffected by this policy provided the teams registered in this League, remain in this League, year after year, as they age up. What this policy does not do:(1) It does not dictate what a member can or can not do. Members are free to continue registering teams in this League as well as any other League. (2) It pertains strictly to rival travel leagues. It has no effect whatsoever on the operation of house leagues or national organizations members choose to affiliate with. ENYTB is not anti-Babe Ruth. We see ourselves as a strategic partner with all our members. We help our members offer a better product to their communities to promote participation in member programs. The ENYTB travel program should be viewed as a complement to house programs, not a substitute for it or a competitor with it. ENYTB only competes with non-members. Non-exclusive members are somewhere in the middle. They still get to sell the ENYTB product to their community but they are on their own when competing with ENYTB’s independent clubs for the better players.

Actions Taken By ENYTB's Execution Board (as amended Feb. 8, 2006)

We are not trying to be vindictive but it is the responsibility of this Board to make whatever hard choices are necessary to protect the quality of the ENYTB product as well the long-term viability of the League. Players are the lifeblood of any League. As a general matter, it would not be in this League's long-term interest to provide members of t... read more
