Learning About The League
posted by Administrator 10/31/2005 07:10:00
As shown by the ENYTB Timeline (click the top menu bar on the left), ENYTB is a full service league, offering teams of all ages a wide range of playing opportunities throughout the spring, summer and fall. Although ENYTB is not fundamentally different from any other baseball league in America, it is NOT a one-size-fits-all league - everything is customized to each team. Thus, more choices are available and, consequently, more information is required. It is not unusual for new and prospective members to feel somewhat overwhelmed by the league's many choices and informational requirements. To help in this regard, the website has three areas that contain a wealth of information about the league and league participation: FAQs (click its menu bar, located to the left); the "League Intro" (click its tab located above) and the League's Constitution and By-Laws (click its menu bar, located to the left). The League's regular season playing rules also can be viewed by clicking its menu bar (also located to the left). The FAQs and "League Intro" should be everyone's first source for information. The "League Intro" section is much more extensive than the FAQs. It is organized by major topic and explains most everything of significance about the league that is necessary or would be useful for particpants to know. The League Constitution is not a document necessarily intended to be read in its entirety but is useful as a definitive reference on matters such as franchises, player rights, tampering and releases. The ENYTB Playing Rules should be read carefully and a copy should be brought to every league game. Violations of league playing rules can and should be protested. In addition to the material available on the website, League meetings are used to disseminate operational information, and provide league participants with opportunities to have their questions answered by a league official. When all else fails, participants can contact the League Director to obtain answers to any remaining questions. In the end, everyone finds a way to get through the process and every team is provided with the best possible baseball season. Here is a brief overview of what the entire process involves, from A to Z. The vast majority of teams participate as members but it is possible to participate on a more limited basis as a non-member. Like any other travel sports league, teams register with the league and submit their rosters. Each member also submits info on its team(s) and home field availability, including when it wants to begin and ends it season. All member teams are eligible for a range of sanctioned play options, and receive fully customized, competitively balanced league schedules. All of this is done through this website. Members telephone the League Director, who records each team's registration selections and other required information. Usually three such conferences are required: for activation, for registration and for pre-scheduling.Each member team plays its regular season schedule. The results of the regular season are used to qualify teams for berths in whatever sanctioned national championship tournament series they registered for. All regular season action is recorded on the website by each team. In addition, the website provides users with additional capabilities to greatly enhance their total baseball experience every day of the season. The website may seem a bit daunting at first to some but once you get some experience with it, you will wonder how you ever survived without it - at least that's our story and we're sticking to it!Some of the topics covered in League Intro are listed below. *** Sanctioned Regular Season Play (members only) .....
