What is the difference between a club and a team and what different types of clubs are there?

What is a club?

The ENYTB Constitution defines a member as a club. A club owns one or more teams. These teams often share the same name but not always.

Clubs are recognized by ENYTB for three important reasons.
  • Multi-team "clubs" represent the most common form of organization in the travel sports world;
  • ENYTB confers special rights to clubs; and,
  • The existence of clubs is instrumental in facilitating the process of league administration.
Each club must have an owner of record, either an organization or an individual, and a club rep who acts as a general manager and represents the club in all official league matters. The club GM usually provides league with field availability for its home field(s) as well as its club logo, club website etc.

(2) What different types of clubs are there?

Not all clubs are created equal. Some clubs qualify as:
  • "Full Franchise" members (FF) - To qualify as full franchise member, the club must register teams in ages 13U-15U every year. These clubs are given a geographical franchise area and enjoy a special territorial right within its franchise area, known as franchise player exemptions i.e., any player residing in a club's franchise area can switch to that club from another club w/o requiring the use of a RFA credit (limit one per year);
  • Non-continuing members (NCM) - this includes any club that does not keep its teams in ENYTB as they age up e.g., American Legion and Babe Ruth members. NCM are not eligible for any RFA credits or exemptions.
