Be Vigilant For Canceled Game Notifications via Admin Cancel

Warning To All Teams!

The first half of June is the time of the year when teams run into conflicts with school baseball programs. Sometimes it is due to success in the Sectionals (which is a good thing), sometimes it is due to conflicts with modified games due to reschedules, and sometimes it is due to baseball banquets that are called at the last moment. None of these situations were known or knowable when teams submitted their TA for scheduling. For that reason, we don't penalize such cancellations. Instead, we let teams apply for an Admin Cancel for these situations.

NOTE: When you apply for an AC (red X on your game listing) send me an email telling me the exact event, the school name and how many players on your team are affected. Before or after your AC request is approved, you should contact your opponent and inform him of the situation so he is on the lookout for the cancellation notice, if/when it is granted.

Conflicts due to school exams, school proms, graduation etc. do NOT qualify for AC because those events were all known/knowable long in advance. If we allowed teams to cancel games w/o penalty due to any foreseeable conflict they failed to foresee, most of the June schedule would get cancelled and June games represent 2/3 of our season. That would not make too many people happy. It is up to each team to plan around these events when they submit their TA. The penalty for not doing so is their incentive.

However, the reason for this notice is not the above reminder.

For the first time ever, we have teams showing up for games that have been canceled via the AC process described above. The website notifies the manager/coaches and club owner by email whenever they have lost a game due to AC. It also removes the game from their current schedule (it remains on their historical schedule, marked canceled).

For the first time ever, teams are missing this.

It is each team's responsibility to keep up with email notices re: schedule changes, including AC, and to frequently check their current schedule to be sure nothing has changed w/o them knowing it.

The easiest way to do this is to contact each opponent several days before you are scheduled to play them to verify the details of the game i.e., where/when/how to get there/umpire fees etc. This is a friendly practice. And it does not matter which team initiates the contact, only that it gets done.

Blindly following the schedule that existed two weeks ago or even a week ago is a sure fire formula for disaster. Take the teams that are going to the State Finals for example. I believe we have three such teams affected and I have canceled about 10 games for them alone in the last few days. I also have canceled many games at the younger ages due to re-scheduled modified games and sports banquets.

So stay on your toes, especially this time of the year, for Admin Cancels. After next week, the only Admin Cancels will be for conflicts with sanctioned tournaments (competitive berth winners) and ENYTB hosted tournaments (late entries).
