History, Pros and Cons Of ENYTB's Diamond Division

ENYTB created its Elite classification Diamond) in 2014 as a compromise between the league and its member clubs with so-called "tournament" teams.

Example: Club xyz has 10 teams and one of those teams wishes to play exclusively as a tournament team and does not want to participate in ENYTB period.

If a team's roster is comprised of all original UFAs, it is free to leave ENYTB altogether w/o penalty on the club as a whole. The difficulty arises when the team's roster is compromised of one or more RFAs, acquired from their fellow ENYTB members. It is not fair to the league or its members to take those players out of league play. Prior to adoption of the rules underlying the Elite or Diamond division, that member would be banned from all ENYTB play at all ages. Rather than hurt both the club and the league, a compromise was adopted.

The compromise that we call the Diamond division is that:

1 - The tournament team surrenders all ENYTB RFA protections on its own players;

2 - Abides by all ENYTB RFA restrictions vis a vis other ENYTB non-Diamond teams; and,

3 - Agrees to play at least a 6 game ENYTB schedule.

In return, ENYTB agreed:

1 - Not to impose any penalty on the club nor the tournament teams; and,

2 - To provide a lesser registration fee for any Elite team wishing to play a schedule of only 6 games.

Thus, aside from avoiding the club death penalty, the only real advantage to registering an ENYTB team as Elite is that it makes that team eligible for a stronger schedule i.e., elite teams can play other Diamond teams in their same age division, as well as one year older and one year less, as well as Gold teams one year older. Of course, the same scheduling "benefits" can be achieved by registering your team one year higher.

Continuation of Elite Player status from one year to the next when an Elite team decides to go back to non-Elite staus.

With respect to ENYTB roster protection, the classification any team electing to register as an Elite team in ENYTB's Diamond Division shall remain Elite at least until Jan 31 of the following year. This means that the players on an Elite team wishing to drop into a non-Elite division shall be regarded as UFA until the last day of January of year following their team's last active participation in the Elite Division. Thus, until that time, these players are free to play for any other ENYTB team w/o counting against the acquiring team's accrued RFA credits or H2H limits.

Any such player not claimed to the roster of another team by the final day of January, shall be subject to the roster protection rules associated with his team's new classification.

Example:

Team XYZ registers as Elite team in 2014 and wishes to drop to Gold level in following year.

Prior to Feb 1, any new or existing ENYTB team (Team ABC)may add any player(s) from Team XYZ to its roster w/o that player(s) counting against the cap space of Team ABC.

On or after Feb 1, Team XYZ would be officially reclassified to a GOLD team, and all of its then rostered players would receive normal roster protection, the same as any other Gold ENYTB team. Thus, were Team ABC to add any players from Team XYZ to its roster after Jan 31, each such added player would count against both the RFA credits and H2H limits for Team ABC.

Unanimously adopted by ENYTB Executive Committee 1/5/2015.
