Waterford and Devil Cats To Co-Host PONY15 Regional Tournament!

Request below was answered.

It's official: 2012 PONY15 Regional tournament will be hosted locally with winner advancing to PONY15 Zone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Seeking Host For PONY15 Regional Tournament

The 15U division is not a great age division for going away to tournaments. Thus, it is a logical age division for us to host a sanctioned tournament. However, to do so, we need a committed host with access to a quality field or two. Here is a summary of the sanctioned post-season prospects at 15U.

(1) PONY15 - doesn't have a World Series. (This is the only PONY age division w/o a World Series.) And last year it didn't have a Regional tournament either. This year Zone level tournament will be held in Pittsburgh or Maryland. PONY is still seeking a PONY15 Regional host.

(2) AABC15 - doesn't have a regional tournament. (AABC doesn't sponsor a Regional for any of the odd year ages.) AABC doesn't provide AABC15 World Series teams with any travel reimbursement. This means the local AABC15 tournament winner advances directly to teh AABC15 World Series in Arizona at their own expense (not real appealing).

(3) NABF doesn't offer tournament play at 15U (or any of the odd year ages except 17U).

(4) CABA15 - offers two World Series, one wood (SC) and one metal (IN). ENYTB has a very limited number direct CABA15 World Series berths. Because of that and because of the highly competitive nature of CABA World Series competition, ENYTB makes these berths available to its Gold teams only. No travel money available.

(5) CABA15 National Championships - there are two, one wood bat (MI) and one metal bat (OH). These tournaments are misnamed in that they are largely regional competitions (two or three states = 90% of entries). These berths may be purchased on a direct buy-in basis through ENYTB (cheaper than buying them on your own through CABA as an at-large team). ENYTB does not run competitions for these berths via regular season play of the June Madness tournament. ENYTB can buy more than one berth to these tournaments. No travel money offered.

Thus, it is easy to see that unless you want pay the full tab to travel to AZ, MI, OH, IN (one lucky Gold team) or SC (one lucky Gold team) the only realistic sanctioned tournament opportunity is PONY15.

If that is the case, we might find it desirable to host the PONY15 Regional tournament ourselves. Only two of our teams would ultimately qualify (host and best record) but these are normally only 5 team tournaments and the winner gets some travel money from PONY to advance to their Zone, which for all intents and purposes is their World Series in this age division.

So, if we have one or two teams that would like to host this tournament, now is the time to shout out and claim it. I don't know the exact date yet but it is normally held either the 3rd or 4th week in July. It lasts about 3 days and includes only about 9 games max.

If you want to host the PONY15 Regional tournament, I need to hear from you sooner rather than later!
