Goodbye Spring/Summer Season ---- Hello Fall Ball!

A Brief Report Card On 2012 Spring/Summer Season...and an Introduction To Fall Ball OptionsAnother spring/summer baseball season, the 17th for ENYTB, is rapidly coming to a close. I hope all you have enjoyed your ENYTB experience. With up to four sanctioning choices as well the choice of no sanctioning, 10 age divisions, and up to three levels of competition, there are lots of moving parts in this league and lots to know for sure. Plus, there is getting accustomed to using the website. That can be bewildering the first time through. But it is a small price to pay for the many great benefits that come from having such a large and diverse league. The good thing is that the same paradigm repeats itself at each age level. While the overall structure is largely the same as teams age up, some of the specifics can and do vary across age divisions within each sanctioning body.Hopefully you made all the right choices for your team in 2012 and had a great year. If not, you have the opportunity to learn from your mistakes and adjust accordingly next year. Maybe you registered as a High Silver team and you are really a Gold level team or maybe you passed on all sanctioned tournament play and before the season was over you wished you had jumped in to sanctioned tournament play. Every team gets a fresh shot at making the right choices every year because we repeat the same framework every year at every age division. From an administrative perspective, things went quite well this year. In fact, better than ever. That has to be worth at least a grade of A.* Based on my observations, only a small number of teams placed themselves too high or too low in terms of level of competition;* I did get several calls late in the season about how to sign up for sanctioned post-season tournaments. That of course, must be done before the season begins, during registration, because ENYTB has to register its sanctioned teams with the various national sanctioning bodies and pay their associated fees, long before teams begin play.* And, as I have commented before, overall schedule reliability was a GREAT improvement in 2012! * Paperwork compliance also improved immensely in 2012. Temporarily restricting website access to teams and clubs in non-compliance provided the incentive necessary to induce everyone to get done what needed to be done. From an on-the-field perspective, things couldn't be better. So, I'd say you deserve an A+ in this category.Registrations were down slightly (about 10 teams net) but we expected that when we terminated more than 20 teams at the end of 2011 for extremely poor schedule reliability and failure to pay their fines. The payoff was much better schedule reliability and fine compliance this year.ENYTB teams continued to excel in post-season play as they captured MORE THAN A DOZEN sanctioned tournament championships! All that is required to make it a banner year is another World Series winner. We still have several teams competing at the Zone, Regional and World Series levels so that is still a possibility. (I will give a full report on the post-season accomplishments of our teams at a later time when all results are known.)The ENYTB motto is that "To get better you need to play the best." ENYTB teams have the opportunity to play the best every time they play. This is what prepares them for post-season success as well as the next level. The ability to play teams a year older is a bonus as well.We hope to see everybody back next year and we hope that you act as ambassadors for the league during the off-season, talking us up to your friends and neighbors. The more teams we have in each age division, the easier it will be to give each of you a customized schedule that matches the level of competitiveness you are looking for, and scheduled on the dates and times your team is available to play. For those of you that keep going into the fall season after an August siesta, we remind you that ENYTB has a complete fall program fully described here: CLICK. The ENYTB fall program is open to everyone, including non-ENYTB summer members. The scheduling is customizable much like ENYTB's spring/summer season. Players whose ENYTB summer team is not participating in ENYTB fall ball are free to play for the fall team of their choice. The absence of sanctioning allows us to be more liberal in the treatment/classification of teams consisting of players from two or more adjacent ages. We have attracted 60+ fall teams each of the last several years. Fall registration begins August 7th. Play begins when you want it to begin and ends when you want it to end. Typical start/end dates are the weekend after Labor Day and about October 20th. You can choose to play single games, doubleheaders, 9 inning games or any mix thereof. You can play as little as one game per weekend or as many as four, your choice. You can black out any dates and times you are not available. Unlimited flexibility in scheduling. You don't even need a home field.Fees: $150 (ENYTB spring/summer members) and $200 (non-ENYTB members)
