Reminder: ENYMML/ENYCML Teams Can No Longer Double Register With ENYTB
posted by Administrator 01/18/2006 07:01:52
ENYTB has always welcomed dual-participation by teams from other Leagues (a process known as double registrations). ENYTB provides these teams with additional opportunities for competitively balanced play and sanctioned tournament eligibility. Most of these teams also register with us to be eligible for NABF Regional tournaments hosted locally by E... read more

Approximately half of our members are also responsible for operating their own house programs. Those that run smaller house leagues often are faced with the problem of having too few teams to provide them with a sufficient diversity of opponents. In addition, many house leagues, big and small, also desire to offer their house level players an exten... read more
***Major News*** AABC Makes Permanent ENYTB's Mickey Mantle and Connie Mack Programs and Removes All Restrictions On Team Eligibility
posted by Administrator 01/18/2006 07:01:14
When ENYTB was established in 1996, it affiliated with the AABC Sandy Koufax Division. Later we added AABC sanctioning at 15U, 13U, 12U, and 11U. Since there was an existing Mickey Mantle and Connie Mack League in the local area, AABC for many years would not sanction ENYTB at 16U and 18U. That prompted ENYTB to seek out other national affiliations... read more
ENYTB Introduces Elite Division Play at 16U and 17U
posted by Administrator 01/18/2006 06:01:40
In the last couple of years ENYTB teams have increasingly inquired about the possibility of ENYTB forming its own "Elite" division, with the possibility of including other elite teams from other regions. The ENYTB Constitution recognizes elite teams beginning at age 16, provided they participate in a higher level organized program of play than ENYTB. These teams are allowed to register for play against other ENYTB teams to supplement their elite schedules but they are restricted from eligibility for local sanctioned tournaments available through ENYTB because they are exempt from ENYTB player procurement regulations i.e., players can join an elite team without an ENYTB release. (ENYTB imposes a May 1 deadline on elite teams for when they can claim players off non-elite ENYTB teams.) Non-elite teams, mostly our top gold teams, benefit from this arrangement as well by having the opportunity to play "pick-up" games against elite teams during the regular season without having to compete them for League berths to entry-level sanctioned tournaments. Thus far, only the So. Troy Dodgers 18 team, a member of the Atlantic Regional League, has applied to ENYTB for elite status, which it was granted several years ago. The Atlantic Regional League has a direct berth in the North Atlantic Regional (AABC) and thus, ENYTB teams can enjoy the benefit of playing pick-up games with the Dodgers 18 teams without having to compete with them for berths to local, entry-level, sanctioned tournaments. While ENYTB understands the issues involved with accomodating local elite play, it also recognizes that a negotiated co-existance with elite teams through regulation will be more beneficial to the interests of its non-elite members than a they-go-it-alone-approach resulting in no control on the maximim number of elite teams, the competition for players or and entry-level tournament eligibility.First and foremost, we don't want to see the rest of the League cannibalized and diluted by a proliferation of elite teams. To prevent an ENYTB Elite division from doing significant harm to the level of play in the rest of the League, a maximum of four teams in a 75 mile radius of Albany would be allowed entry to an Elite Division in any given year (per age division).Secondly, as a general principle, because the playing field between elites and non-elites is not level in terms of attracting players, ENYTB believes the prospect of elite teams competing for berths in local entry-level sanctioned tournaments should be avoided when there is a feasible alternative. Last year AABC introduced World Series Qualifiers as an alternative way of gaining a berth in their World Series. Instead of having to win a State and Regional tournament to get to teh AABC World Series, now teams can enter a World Series Qualifier. AABC has planned two World Series Qualifiers at 18U this year and four at 16U, including one as near as Long Island, NY. Each Qualifier is given one berth in the World Series.NABF has other tournament options available as well. There is no limit on the number of NABF regional berths any League can purchase, provided there are at least four registered teams for each berth. ENYTB typically buys five NABF regional berths at each age division (sixth one is for hosting). It would be possible for the League to buy an additional NABF regional berth to a non-local regional, so that the non-elite teams would be protected from having to play against the local elite teams in locally hosted NABF regional tournaments. At 17U, NABF offers a special High School World Series as a direct buy-in. An elite 17U Division could play for berths to that tournament. In addition, as of 2005, no UNYSABA League has established a CM17 Division and there is no guarantee that there will be any participation in 2006. Thus, for this year at least, ENYTB could offer its Connie Mack 17 Division as an elite only division and award that tournament berth to the elite division. If no other UNYSABA League registers for play in this division, the ENYTB CM17 berth winner would get a bye straight to the CM17 World Series. Finally, ENYTB has a PONY 18U berth that goes unused most years. That berth could be earmarked to the 17 Elite Division this year. If there is sufficient interst this year, ENYTB proposes to offer Elite Divisions at 16U and 17U only. Next year we will consider the need for an 18U Elite Division. Currently we have no plans to offer Elite Division play at the younger age divisions. As of now, AABC does not offer World Series Qualifiers at the younger age divisions or the odd year age divisions. The Executive Board would have sole determination over all team applications for the Elite Division. Local participation in the ENYTB Elite Divisions would be open to ENYTB members only. 16 Elite - 4 teams(i) AABC 16U World Series Qualifier berth(ii) NABF 16U Regional (nonlocal)berth17 Elite - 4 teams(i) AABC Connie Mack 17U State berth(ii) NABF 17U High School World Series berth(iii) PONY 18U Regional berthIf you have an interest in particpating as an Elite team in either of these divisions this year, please contract Ed Frye (518) 356-9089.
