How many games can the league guarantee a team?
Theoretically, there is no limit. One of the great advantages of a large league is that it is fairly easy to provide teams with as large a schedule as they desire, including a great diversity of competitively balanced opponents. The League has scheduled as many as 50 games for teams in previous years. However, since there are only about 50 days in the regular season, to get this many scheduled games a team would need to be available to play on a high precentage of days, most likely would need to be available for weekend DHs, and most likely would need to have a home field that was available a great deal of the time. Commonly, teams request about 24 games. Those that like to play more may request as many as 30 or even 35. This number does not include any tournament games the team may qualify for. On the low end, teams will request 12 to 16 games, or an average of two games per week. Teams specify a minimum and maximum request for the season and on a weekly basis. The league will not exceed either maximum. Thus, if you request 30 total games and a maximum of 3 per week over a 7 week season, you will get 21 games, not 30.
